With just under 250 days to go until the main event, now seems like the right time to provide the first update of the goings-on at Running Scotland HQ.
It may seem like a long way off, but training is already well underway. To ensure we don’t just collapse into a crumpled heap after day one, a lot of the early work involves getting our bodies used to running at a slower tempo and lower heart rate, along with strength and conditioning work to ‘hopefully’ stay as injury free as possible. With the recent snow and icy conditions, it has been a little tricky, but it hasn’t dented our commitment or enthusiasm!
Ryan… the poster boy for running enthusiasm!
With the COVID restrictions continuing, we have all been doing our own individual training. Derek is based out in Greenock, Paddy and Stuart in Edinburgh, and Ryan in the hard lands of Glasgow. Strava has been a great way to ensure we all try and keep up with each other’s distances, whilst trying not to get too competitive this early on!
Feel free to give our Strava pages a follow, just to prove we aren't just making this all up!!

In addition to training, there has been a lot of behind the scenes preparation for the challenge. This event would not be possible without the help of sponsors, and we have already got some fantastic companies on board to help support us in the essential running costs of an event like this. Please check out our Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors on our website www.runningscotland.com along with our excellent run partners who have agreed to provide us with equipment and nutrition etc for the event itself. We cannot thank these companies enough. If you are interested in supporting us then please get in touch.
The route has been finalised. This mammoth challenge will involve 445 miles of running, 29,000ft of climbing and just 10 days to complete it. We have already had lots of people who are interested in joining us for part of the route which is amazing. If people want to join us for 5k, 10k, maybe even your first half/full marathon, then we would love to see you on the route at some point, COVID-permitting of course.

Ultimately we are all aiming to finish, but we are not forgetting that primarily this challenge is about raising as much money and awareness as we can for SAMH, Scotland’s Mental Health Charity. At the time of writing this we have already raised £885 which is absolutely fantastic! www.justgiving.com/runningscotland2021
Thank you to everyone who has already donated, we are still a long way off our target so if you are in a position to donate then we would be ever grateful. Rest-assured, any money given by sponsors that is not needed for the event itself will also be going straight to SAMH.

With the grim milestone of 100,000 COVID deaths in the UK, it is now more important than ever that we look after each other and our mental health. As a group we all find running a great release from the stresses of day-to-day life. It's so important to take some time out each day to run, walk, or even just breathe in some fresh air. You don’t have to run the length of Scotland, we promise!!
Please give us a like and a share on our social media channels, it will really help spread the word for our challenge and for SAMH.
